JHSC Part One Certification is the first step towards becoming a certified workplace Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) member. Combined with JHSC Certification Part Two, this generic training program aligns with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) standards and is applicable across all sectors.

Completion of JHSC Part Two training within one year of finishing JHSC Part One is mandatory, without exception.

Health and Safety Professionals Inc. proudly serves as an Ontario Chief Prevention Office (CPO) approved training provider for the comprehensive JHSC Certification program.

Who should take JHSC Part One Training?

JHSC Part One training caters to all workplaces, regardless of sector. If your workplace regularly employs 20 or more individuals, it must have at least two certified committee members – one from management and one chosen by workers or the union. This training is essential for:

  • Members of JHSC: Those already serving on a Joint Health and Safety Committee.

  • Supervisors: Individuals overseeing work teams or departments.

  • Managers: Those responsible for overseeing operations and staff.

  • Any individual seeking to enhance their health and safety knowledge, Including employees from various roles and levels of experience, with a desire to improve workplace safety practices.

Training Material

You will receive the following material when taking JHSC Part One training.

  • JHSC Part One Participant Workbook
  • HSPI’s exclusive Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) Reference Guide
  • OHS Act and Regulations pocketbook (Green book)
  • A digital copy of the JHSC certificate of completion upon successfully completing the JHSC Part 1 training. We send your training records to SkillsPass.

  • The instructor actively engages the learners by using Breakout rooms, workbook exercises, and case studies.
  • You must take a final JHSC Part 1 evaluation on the third and final day of training.
  • You must successfully achieve a passing grade of 75% or more to get the JHSC Part 1 certificate. Your next step is JHSC Part Two training.

  • Our Training Coordinator and IT team will be available during the training for support throughout the JHSC Part 1 course.
  • You will need a computer with a camera, microphone, and internet connection to participate in the JHSC Part 1 training. We recommend the use of a computer or laptop for a better experience.
  • The JHSC Part 1 course will be delivered using Zoom. Use the test link to make sure you can access Zoom on your device.
  • To access digital training material and the final evaluation, you must login into BIS Trainer during the JHSC Part 1 course.
