Occupational Health and Safety Advisor – Intern

Position Summary

The Occupational Health and Safety Advisor Intern will support the planning, development, and delivery of occupational health and safety initiatives under the guidance of experienced professionals. The intern will collaborate with staff to assist in client projects, contribute to training program development, perform legislative and best-practice research, and help ensure company policies and training materials remain current and effective.

This position offers a valuable opportunity to apply academic knowledge in a real-world consulting environment while developing professional skills in communication, analysis, and project coordination. Depending on the needs of the team and the intern’s interests, there may be opportunities to attend client meetings, participate in audits or investigations, and contribute ideas to expand training offerings.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Communicate with customers to determine project requirements and details.
  • Collaborate with project team to develop action plans for customers based on project scope and requirements.
  • Conduct research using academic literature, legal standards, and industry best practices and apply findings to health and safety projects.
  • Prepare written reports, presentations, training materials, or other documents required for individual projects.
  • Review, analyze, and update health and safety policies based on legislated requirements and evidence-based best practices.
  • Provide support to the President and other staff in completing incident investigations and investigation reports.
  • Provide support resident and other staff in completing health and safety audits and audit reports.
  • Review and update training materials, including PowerPoint presentations, student handouts, and other required materials.
  • Research, propose, and assist in the development of new training opportunities based on market demand.
  • Establish and maintain contacts with current customers to support current projects and generate ongoing work.
  • Maintain company policies, standards, procedures, and workflows.

Preferred Education

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a 3-year Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety;
  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Bachelor of Health and Safety from a recognized institution (considered an asset);
  • Bachelor of Education from a recognized institution (considered an asset);
  • Certification as an instructor in another regulated discipline (E.g., First Aid, Driving, Working at Heights, Etc.) considered an asset.

This position is funded by Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC).

Duration: 12 month contract.

Wage: $22.50/hr
